Frequently asked questions
-
What are the benefits of small group tuition?English is a subject that is meant to be discussed! You get marked on your responses to the texts – so discussion and debate are important elements to experience; whether you desire to take part or listen, there is value in discussion work. Small group sessions allow this happen fluently, whereas one-to-one tuition discussions can be limited and intense.
-
Do you only offer online tuition?Yes, at the moment Scholarscape is online only. Online tuition is not the enemy - it is your friend! It allows you to fit your learning around your schedule, whether you are self-studying on the Silver Course or joining a scheduled Booster or Gold Course Zoom call. All students on your call will be there because they want to learn and grow more confident in English - everyone is as motivated as they would be in person, but you can learn from the comfort of your own home.
-
How do I start?Choose your course to start learning. If you are unsure which course is the right fit, book your free call and we to talk through your options. Gold Course students will be invited to have a call with our Founder Camilla, to ensure they are the right fit for the course. Silver Course students can start learning as soon as purchase of the self-study content is complete. Booster Sessions are scheduled regularly and each cover one module of the exam. You will need to book onto the right session(s) for your child.
-
Can you give my child a target grade? We cannot guarantee any child a certain grade; improvement is dependent on each child’s ability and commitment to learning. Gold Course students will take an assessment to determine their current level and areas to improve; feedback on this assessment may give an idea of how much a student may improved with the appropriate dedicated to the course.
-
Can I pay in instalments? The Silver Course and Booster Sessions must be paid in full before the content can be accessed. Gold Course payments can be made in three instalments via a Stripe payment link. Please see Scholarscape's Terms and Conditions and Course Prices documents for more information or email info@scholarscape.co.uk
-
Will you mark my child’s work?Students on the Gold Course may be set small “homework” tasks between lessons to improve independent learning. These will be marked by the Scholarscape tutors. Work set externally by the student’s school or another source of independent study will not be accepted by our tutors for marking.

I’ve booked but now I can’t attend!Booster Sessions: If you are unable to attend your booked Booster Session please let us know as soon as possible. We run these sessions regularly and we may be able to rebook you on another class before your child’s exam. Gold Course sessions are recorded, so that students can refer back to the content for revision at a later date. This also means that if a child misses a lesson, they can catch up in their own time before the next class. Of course students will get the most from the Gold Course if they attend every session; if you or your child has a particularly busy or unpredictable schedule, it may be that the Silver Course is a better choice for on-the-go self-study.
-
Do you only cover AQA GCSE English?Yes, all of our courses are based on the English GCSE syllabus set by AQA. 92% of schools use AQA as their English GCSE exam board; our founder Camilla is also an examiner for AQA, and so has a unique insight on what examiners are looking for! We would not recommend the Gold or Silver Course for a student who is taking another exam board. Some of our Booster Sessions may be useful to a student on another exam board, for example if you are also taking a Macbeth module and would like to approach the content from a fresh perspective. However, we would recommend getting in touch before booking to clarify this with our team.
